Music Month Celebration!

April was Music Month! Crestview celebrated music education with a Mind Craft theme! Each student made a personal avatar and attached a speech bubble with what they love about music!

We also learned the song Is Somebody Singing written and performed by Chris Hadfield while he was on the International Space Station. The entire school sang the song during a school assembly. On Music Monday, May 4th, Crestview Singers performed at John Taylor with our 'Family of Schools' as a further celebration of Music Monday! Congratulations to all students involved. Stay tuned for more year end music celebrations!

Winnipeg Music Festival Performance Coming Up!

The Crestview Singers perform at the Winnipeg Music Festival on Monday, March 9th. Students will perform in front of an audience and an adjudicator and will be given feedback from the adjudicator along with a standing of gold, silver, or bronze. This is a pretty big deal in the music community so we would like to have as many participants available to sing as well as lots of audience members out to cheer on our singers! Make sure green forms are in by Wednesday, March 4th in order for your child to attend this field trip (if they are in choir!).

They perform at 11:00 a.m. at Westminster United Church. Students will be leaving Crestview at 10:00 a.m. on a school bus and will arrive back at school around 12:00 p.m.

Students are reminded to wear their uniform of black shoes, black pants, and their RED Crestview Choir shirt on Monday and bring a bag lunch.

Tickets are $4.00 at the door for anyone that would like to come and cheer on the Crestview Singers!

Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns!

I am still looking for parent volunteers to help out for this field trip. If you are available, please contact me A.S.A.P. if you are interested!

Thank you for your continued support in the music program at Crestview!

Festival season has arrived!!

Festival season has arrived! It seems like just yesterday that the choir was performing for the Winter Concert. I’m so very proud of all students for their dedication and hard work for the concert. It was a great success and every student had lots to contribute!

The choir has already started learning some new pieces that they will be performing at some upcoming concerts.

We will be singing in two festivals. Our first festival will be the St. James-Assiniboia CHORAL MUSIC CELEBRATION. This festival will not be marked and is non-competitive in nature. This festival will be quite beneficial in preparation for our second festival, which is the WINNIPEG MUSIC FESTIVAL.

The dates and locations for these are:
·     CHORAL MUSIC CELEBRATION: The date for this concert is TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 10th. It will take place at Sturgeon Creek United Church, which is located at 207 Thompson Drive. Students must be at the church no later than 6:20 p.m. Our performance time is 6:50 and we will be finished by 7:15 p.m. Please keep this evening free, as it is essential for ALL students to attend. Students will wear their choir uniforms for this concert. Please contact me if you need clarification or help with rides.

·     WINNIPEG MUSIC FESTIVAL: This festival is on March 9th at 11:00 a.m. The students will be bussed to Westminister United Church for this performance. Any parents that would like to watch this performance are more than welcome to attend. We will probably arrive at the church around 10:30 a.m., with stage time at approximately 11:00 a.m. General admission cost is $4.00, with free admission for children 12 and under. The venue does not have interact or credit card machines, and will accept only cash for admittance. Students are asked to wear their choir uniforms for this performance.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email me at jdunk@sjsd.net or call Crestview School at 885-7710. Thank you for your continued support of the music program at Crestview!

Yours truly,

Jordanna Dunk
